Anyone in the world By Lorna Mclaren There seems to be a lot of myths surrounding the choice of Wedding Songs and many couples do not realise that there is actually no restrictions on which songs they choose, apart from the sensibilities of the vicar of course! You can have any music as your wedding songs and it is entirely up to you. Sometimes the venue that the marriage ceremony is going to take place in may have their own particular list of inappropriate wedding songs but you should always be able to have the freedom to hear any tunes playing. If you want something different to the traditional wedding songs then you only have to look at televised weddings to see that anything goes. Not everyone will want the same wedding songs as the fictional couples in Days of Our Lives, Bold and Beautiful, Days of Our Lives or other soap operas but it can be fun to listen to some of the producers choices for the perfect wedding songs. No matter which musicians are your particular favourites you are sure to find wedding songs that fit the type of event that you want your wedding day to be. Remember that you can also really let your hair down when it comes to the choice of music for your wedding reception too and these wedding songs tend to be more memorable! Anyone in the world By D. Perse Native to Mediterranean, parsley has been cultivated and used in culinary and medicine for thousands of years. In times of Hippocrates (he was born around the year 460 BC on the Greek island of Kos) parsley has been used in cure-all remedies, as antidote to poisons, to cure rheumatism, for relieving kidney and bladder stones and more. In Homers Odyssey (written sometime between 800 and 600 BC) theres a description of parsley, growing on an island, named Ogygia. About a century later, the winners of Nemean and Isthmus sporting events were crowned with the wreaths made of parsley. It is interesting that ancient Greeks used parsley for everything but cooking and eating. The legend says that parsley has first sprouted from the blood of Archemorus (hero in Greek mythology: the Forerunner of death) and was therefore sacred to the dead. The tombs of deceased were decorated with parsley. A crown of wild olive was given to the victor at Olympia, and laurel at Delphi. And at the Isthmian Games pine leaves, at the Nemean Games parsley, as we know from the cases of Palaemon and Archemorus. But most games have a crown of palm as the prize, and everywhere the palm is put into the right hand of the victor. (Pausanias: Description of Greece, c. 175 CE) Traditional Greek recipes (just as abundant with history as Greeks mythology) use flat leaf parsley, a lot of it, many times even as a vegetable, in huge amounts, above all in stews. Today, with many of the ancient claims scientifically confirmed, we know that parsley is rich in vitamins (especially A and C) and minerals. It is also said to help eliminate the toxins out of ones body, remove or inactivate free radicals, help with rheumatoid arthritis and lessen inflammations. With high chlorophyll content parsley is also a great natural breath freshener. Just like parsley is a saying, still used in Greece for the person, who appears to be everywhere, without any significant role. Anyone in the world By Kadence Buchanan It is only logical that people need to look and feel their best. But nature is not perfect and neither are we. From time to time, more and more people have entered the plastic or cosmetic surgeons' offices determined to get rid off, or change, one or more of their features and improve their looks. Multiple studies have even shown that performing a desired plastic surgery can alter the way people feel about themselves. Attaining the looks we want actually has direct impact on our personality. People tend to build their confidence and feel comfortable with their characteristics. But, from reducing the size of a nose to completely altering the way a person looks, a huge gap exists and people should be aware of what plastic or cosmetic surgery is and what are the risks entailed, before committing to perform the operation that will lead them closer to their dream self. Recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties, plastic surgery is a general term for operative manual and instrumental treatment which is performed for functional or aesthetic reasons. In fact, the word plastic derives from a Greek word and means "to mold" or "to shape." Plastic surgery is a rather broad category that also includes reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Thus, cosmetic surgery is a subcategory of plastic surgery and helps to improve the appearance of a person by correcting the defects or improving its functions. Originally introduced to minimize the disfigurement caused by accidents, disease, or birth, cosmetic surgery has gone a long way since its introduction and it is now also referred to as aesthetic surgery. Aesthetic surgery changes existing facial or body features to improve appearance, but the need for it to be performed is mainly psychological and not functional. Demonstrated by 11.9 million cosmetic procedures performed in the US alone in 2004, cosmetic surgery is a very popular avenue for personal enhancement. Designed to improve cosmetics, or appearance, this type of procedure has drawn the attention of million of people around the globe, who wished to improve a specific feature on their body by deciding to "correct" one of nature's mistakes in a surgeon's room. Since it takes a visit nowadays to correct a physical flaw, or one developed through time, people are eager to visit a cosmetic surgeon's clinic and spend a huge amount of income to perform an anti-wrinkle treatment like a botox injection, or thousand other cosmetic surgery procedures to stop the clock or become a better version of who they really are. Since our society gives priority to youth and beauty-as depicted in fashion and lifestyle magazines-people perceive the imagery they are fed as the only acceptable image they should themselves portray. Loosing hair, teeth, and body shape, can lead a person to perform some type of cosmetic surgery procedure in order to recapture the lost youth. Although through cosmetic surgery people can change the way the feel and ultimately behave and not only the way they look, cosmetic surgery entails a risk; after all it is a surgery. Complications during the procedure or unfavorable consequences after its completion, can lead people to file lawsuits reclaiming their lost money, time, features and psychological state. Thus, before having to deal with bleeding or more serious complications, like infections, a person considering of performing a cosmetic surgery has to research extensively the solutions provided and minimize the risks involved by finding the recognized surgery center that its reviews increase the possibilities of successfully completing the procedure. Having to suffer later has never been among the desired outcomes of cosmetic surgery that exists only to help one feel and function better. Kadence Buchanan writes articles on many topics including

Anyone in the world By Kathleen Couch Impossible situations can become possible miracles." -Robert H. Schuller
"And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." -Matthew 21:22, Holy Bible
I have had many life miracles from faith in God, but I do have one that stands out in my mind... After we were told we could not have children biologically, we adopted our son as a baby. When he was four years old, my husband and I were pondering whether to adopt a second child. For those of you who do not know, the process of adoption can be very emotional, with a fear of rejection if you do not qualify for a certain requirement of the agency. Rules such as age, or already had adopted one baby, so can not get another, and so on, depending on the agency. We were not on the waiting list anywhere, with the exception of a place our pastor had told us about six months before we adopted our son. But, it did not seem promising. They had only acknowledged that they had received our application, but we had not heard from them since. My husband and I kept trying to think it through, and kept asking the Lord what he wanted, but could not see any clear direction. My husband told me that he was okay with either way, and that it was more up to me than him. We were on vacation at the time, and still I could not get any "for sure" direction. Finally I prayed,
Lord if you want us to adopt another baby, let me know. I did not have any preconceived idea how he would do this, and kept it at that. When we got home, we had a letter in our mailbox from that agency, asking if we were still interested in adopting! Remember, it had been about 5 years since we had first applied. The miracle did not end there. Now there was all the paperwork, the scrutiny, the interviews, and waiting, to go through. Also, the agency was out of state. It took almost a year more. We finally knew we were approved, but did not know how long it would take. I remember a sleepless night on July 31. I had always prayed, Lord please give me a baby. But that night I prayed for the mother of the baby the Lord was bringing to me. I prayed she would have peace, and feel the comfort of God's arms around her. We got the call, the agency had a baby girl for us, and could we get there within three days. Everything goes in fast motion and a blur at that time, and we got there. What I found out from the adoption worker when we were picking her up, "blew me away" The mother had no contact with the agency until ten days before she gave birth. She walked in off the street and said she wanted a Christian home for her baby. Our little girl was born on August 11. There are probably even more ways that God worked in this than what I am aware. Oh yes, there is one more. We were told that the agency had never done an adoption to our state, and they had tried three years previously, and first contacted the government agencies, and did not get any cooperation. They usually would not try again, but were just going through their files, and felt impressed to do so. This time they got all the cooperation they needed. Our little girl is 24 now, and is on a life journey. She is growing spiritually, and in maturity. But, whatever the outcome of anything in her life, or ours, one thing I am sure of is that God choose her for us. Anyone in the world By Lisa H. When most people hear the words American Indian, visions of warriors on horses, feathers, or an Indian Princess dance vividly in their heads. Instead, who they are is a culture of people who traditionally educate their children through oral traditions taught from generation to generation, day-to-day life, and sacred ceremonies that included song, dance and stories told to them by elders and spiritual leaders in the community. To give you a better look at American Indian life today I will switch my focus over to the Lakota Nation of South Dakota. Home to such leaders like Black Elk, Crazy Horse and Fools Crow, the land in South Dakota on the Pine Ridge reservation is now the place of a people who remain strong in spirit like their warrior ancestors while trying to live in an economically depressed condition where the unemployment rate can be as high as 85% at times. Many Lakota people on the Pine Ridge reservation live in government housing (or worse), while the children there attend boarding schools run by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The Bureau of Indian Affairs boarding schools were originally set up to try to civilize the savages. The children were forced to separate from their families and community, while at the same time were forbidden to express themselves through their native culture and language. Changes have been made slowly over more recent years- allowing parental involvement and introducing traditional teachings into the schools curriculum. Because of the acts done to the American Indian people like genocide and attempts at taking their culture and traditions away, many generations have suffered emotional, mental, spiritual and physical damage. To the Lakota people these four things alone are important to rearing stable, self-sufficient children who can then go on to live productive lives as adults. The damage done through genocide and the rape of their culture didnt occur just once, but slowly and over time. From generation to generation they have struggled to live in two worlds- that of their people and the one which they were forced into. Across the board the rates for depression, suicide, many physical diseases and crime are greater for American Indians than they are for any other race. The rate of suicide among American Indians age 10-14 is almost 4 times higher than it is for young people from other ethnic groups. Being raised by parents and grandparents who have endured the repression of their culture over many years definitely has an effect on the youth in their communities. Of course there is always free will and the ability for each person to make their own choices regarding how they live their lives, but under such circumstances as these, living with a lack of stability and balance, how can these young people make good choices for themselves? I believe that it cannot be done unless they are given something to stand on- a stable foundation for them to fall back on and begin from. Because the American Indian culture has always been richly-infused with their teachings and spiritual way of life, many psychologists along with native leaders are coming together to bring back the connections for the youth that they so desperately need. This can foster well-being and help to prevent such mental disorders like depression and suicide among the youth in these communities. In Porcupine, South Dakota, the Children First Corp. run by Ethleen Iron Cloud Two Dogs, is using mainstream treatments in conjunction with traditional American Indian methods. The inipi (purification ceremony) is a sacred ceremony for purifying the mind, body and spirit. By going through this ceremony it gives them a stronger foundation to start with before problems can arise. The Lakota naming ceremony is traditionally done when a baby is born. They are given a Lakota name that anchors them to the earth and connects them to their culture and their family in a deep way. For children who have suffered more traumatic events like abuse, their spirit can become damaged and actually leave their body, like a disconnection of sorts. In these cases they would hold a ceremony to call back the spirit so it can re-connect with the mind and body. People like Ethleen Iron Cloud Two Dogs along with mental health professionals, volunteers and Lakota people are slowly connecting the children back with the traditional ways and it has been shown to pay off in recent years. By giving them instruction in the schools about the history and culture of their people along with the spiritual ceremonies and teachings of generations past, they are infusing the children with the stability that they so desperately need for prospering in todays world. Once the children can integrate daily living with native traditions so important to their culture and by getting help and support from the adults in the community by fostering that strong family bond, they can keep their mind, body, emotions and physical self healthy and the rates for depression and suicide among them will lesson greatly. Anyone in the world By Jim Bailey I am not a misanthrope but I do shun the company of people when it comes to fly fishing. When I have a stream to myself, I become more at ease, more aware of my surroundings, and open to natures bounty. I am not so busy chatting about hatches, competing for water, or enviously eyeing the skillful ease of a fellow anglers cast. One downside is that there is generally no one present to confirm or deny the size and number of trout I catch and release on any given day. Even worse, when something truly incredible happens no one is there to verify it. However, this is a small sacrifice for the pleasure such experiences in solitude brings. When I am on a stream solo, extraordinary things happen. One experience I will never forget occurred while I was fishing a stream near my home in the West Kootenays of Southern British Columbia. This particular day in July was like most of our summer days: scorching. There was no breeze, no clouds, no shade, only the merciless weight of the sun. Thankfully, I was waist deep in the cool, forgiving river, casting my fly toward a deep depression sunk into the opposite bank that created a bit of a back eddy. The fly settled a few feet upstream of the eddy but the current soon floated it into the seam. It happened so fast - the splash, the set, the trout hooked, played, and gently released - a nice sixteen inch rainbow. As I continued working the water, casually casting into the riffles and holes, my eye caught a flicker of something in the air. Turning quickly to my right, I focused my gaze on the stunning, acrobatic convulsions of a butterfly. The vibrant purple wings with orange sun-burst tips and white borders, suggested a Lorquins Admiral. It dipped and fluttered through the air until it settled on a withered log at the edge of the stream. I saw another, an exact replica, take wing and stumble drunkenly over the water. It was followed by the first. Then another took off from a distant branch, which was followed by another from a white stone, and another, and another and another. They appeared out of nowhere and soon the air filled with hundreds of flickering, fluttering butterflies, a sunlit, gleaming cloud of moving, expanding purple space. They filled the sky and danced as though engaged in some secret papilonian ritual. I stood frozen, heart pounding, as my breathing quickened. The multitude of butterflies, now a shimmering, surreal entity, encircled me, enveloped me in a mystical whirlwind; then lanquidly floated high above, stopped and hovered as though poised on some mysterious looming precipice, then as one fluid mass, tumbled off like air-born rapids down the river valley and into the steep canyon. I remained motionless for a long time after. I kept peering down into the canyon in hopes that the butterflies would emerge for an encore. My breathing slowly returned to normal but a strange, nervous tremor still lay deep in my stomach. A slight breeze began to stir, and the sun dipped low over the western hills, taking much of the oppressive heat with it. Suddenly off the water, a large mayfly emerged. I watched as another alighted on the stream, drifting along on its current only to be swallowed up in a fatal splash. I couldnt pass up a good Ephemerella grandis hatch. I tied on a red quill dun and cast into the ebbing light, the sound of butterfly wings still echoing in my head. It was a sublime moment and though the experience may seem incidental to the fishing, I could not have witnessed it had I not gone fly fishing. Wherever and whenever I go, whether alone or with others, it is for the simple pleasure of being out on the water amidst the wonders of the natural world, seeking fish, and, if truly fortunate, finding butterflies. Anyone in the world By Yuri Elkaim First off, Let's start with some basic terms: Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR): the minimum number of calories your body's vital organs need just to survive at rest. This accounts for 60-75% of your daily caloric expenditure. RMR varies from person to person and is influenced by such variables as lean body mass, height, weight, sex, age, diet, and stress. Activity: Whether it be at work, walking to and from the store, or engaging in physical activity this type of work accounts for 20-30% of your daily caloric expenditure. Digestion: Ironically, each time you eat food you actually burn calories. This type of expenditure accounts for 5-10% of your daily calorie output. Step 1: Exercise raises your metabolism and therefore helps control your weight Considering that your RMR accounts for up to 75% of your daily caloric expenditure wouldn't it make sense to do things that will increase your RMR? Aerobic activity and strength training increase the energy demand on your body. This release of energy is referred to as "burning calories". Strength training builds lean muscle that in turn burns up to 50x more calories than fat. This is the key to long lasting weight control! Therefore, the more lean muscle mass you have, the higher your RMR becomes which in turn burns more calories, even while sitting on the couch. I like to refer to this as "passive energy expenditure" meaning that you don't need to do anything and yet you're still burning calories. Wouldn't that be great? Simply put in a bit of hard work up front and then reap the benefit in the long run! Step 2: Eating more often in smaller amounts helps increase your metabolism As previously mentioned, every time you eat your body expends energy to digest and absorb what it has just ingested. This is known as the "thermogenic effect of food". Therefore, wouldn't make sense to eat more often knowing that each time you ate you would actually be burning calories. Typically, it is recommended to eat anywhere from 4-6 small meals throughout the day or 3 larger meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) with small snacks in between. However, please remember that we're talking about smaller meals that are healthy, well-balanced, and lower on the glycemic index. Not a burger and fries! So, here are 2 simple steps you can take immediately to help control your weight. We're not talking magic pill but if you're consistent with daily activity and eating frequent small meals you'll see dramatic results in a just few weeks! Anyone in the world By Terry Blackburn Growing Rhubarb Rhubarb is a vegetable with a unique taste that makes it also a favourite when cooked with added sugar and put into pies and desserts. It originated in Asia over 2,000 years ago; initially cultivated for its medicinal qualities; it was not until the 18th century that rhubarb was grown for culinary purposes in Britain. Rhubarb is often commonly mistaken to be a fruit but rhubarb is actually a close relative of garden sorrel, and is therefore a member of the vegetable family. Rhubarb is rich in vitamin C and dietary fibre. Rhubarb leaves grow from the ground in early spring. In some countries, the leaves can grow up to a foot or more in width and length and the plant may grow to a height of several feet. The blade or green leaves of the plant are the part that is poisonous. They contain high concentrations of oxalic acid crystals, which can cause serious problems when eaten. These crystals can cause the tongue and throat to swell, preventing breathing. The edible petioles (stalks) can grow up to 18 in. (45cm) long, 1 to 2 in. (25mm-50mm) in diameter, generally somewhat hemispherical in cross section. These petioles are cut and used in pies, jams, jellies, sauces and juice. Rhubarb rhizomes and the crown persist for many years. Sowing While seeds can be sown, rhubarb is usually planted in roots or crown form. Planting A piece of root with at least one bud or root is planted with the crown just at soil level. Plant outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked. Rhubarb is hardy and will survive late spring frosts. If there is a really hard frost, the leaves and stalk could be damaged, but new ones will soon replace those that are damaged.
Space two or three crowns of Rhubarb two to three feet apart and they will spread. Rhubarb tolerates a little crowding, but the stalks and leaves will grow bigger and healthier if you allow them plenty of space. A few plants are all you will need for a home garden. Days to Maturity It is important to allow the plant to become well established before you begin to harvest the sticks; there they should not be taken until their second or third year after planting. Rhubarb can be picked in the spring as soon as the stalks are large enough to harvest in sufficient quantity for the recipe you are planning to use. Soil Preparation Before planting, select a location where they will not be disturbed for years and where they will not be in the way when tilling your garden in future years. Rhubarb can be planted in partial shade, but will do much better in full sun. General Care Being easy to grow, Rhubarb will thrive in most garden soils. But to ensure that better tasting, larger cropping should be your rewards; you must add plenty of manure and compost to the soil each year. Use a liquid feed during the growing season at two-week intervals for well-established plants, to promote leaf and stalk growth. Make sure ample water is in the soil during the harvest period. After harvest, don't forget to provide water to keep your plants healthy all year long. Healthy Rhubarb will grow and spread. Separate or thin the plants every five years or sooner if the plants become crowded. Disease Rhubarb is long lived and suffers from very few diseases. Harvesting The stalks can be harvested regardless of length. When harvesting, grasp a stalk firmly close to the ground. Twist and pull the stalk and it should break free of the plant. While harvesting, pick the largest stalks first. Don't let them get too big, as some of the flavour will be lost. Rhubarb stalks will remain sweet and flavoursome until the warm summer weather begins and the stalks become less sweet. Forcing Rhubarb can be forced into growing earlier. While the ground has not warmed up sufficiently for the plant to really get growing, cover a couple of plants with a five gallon bucket, preferably black. You can also use a thick layer of straw or leaf mulch. The plants will begin growing earlier and you can harvest them days or weeks before you would normally do. Terry Blackburn. Anyone in the world By Michael Russell In this article we're going to briefly discuss one of the darkest heroes in comic book history, The Green Hornet. The Green Hornet actually hit the scene as a radio program before it ever saw the light of day as a comic book. The radio show debuted in 1936. This was two years before Superman hit the scene in comic books and three years before the creation of Batman. Yes, The Green Hornet did come before both of them though most people don't realize that. The character of The Green Hornet was created by George W. Trendle, who stated in his creation that John Reid, who was the Lone Ranger, was the great-uncle of Britt Reid, the Green Hornet. Something else very few people know. The Green Hornet was one of the forerunners of the super hero genre. And since Trendle linked The Green Hornet to The Lone Ranger, it could be said that The Lone Ranger was also a forerunner. Like many crime-fighters that came after him, The Green Hornet wore a mask, as did The Lone Ranger. The Green Hornet's true identity of Britt Reid, was an editor of a newspaper, the Daily Sentinel. This way he could keep an eye on what was going on in the world around him, much like Clark Kent did as Superman when he took a job working as a reporter at the Daily Planet. There were actually many parallels between Reid and Kent even though Reid was human and Kent was from the planet Krypton. Unlike The Lone Ranger though who got rid of his true identity and just went by The Lone Ranger, Britt Reid kept both of his identities. Newspaper publisher by day and crime-fighter by night. The Green Hornet did not fight crime on his own, however. He had his trusty sidekick Kato, who was Reid's Oriental houseboy. Kato was a master at martial arts long before Kung Fu movies were even thought of. Kato was really the muscle of the team while Reid was more of the brains, though he could put up a pretty big fight when and if he had to. Unlike many of the super heroes that came after him, The Green Hornet was a plainly dressed man. He wore a hat popular during the times and a coat. The only thing he wore that would even be remotely considered odd was his mask. But as crime fighters went, he was a dull one to look at. Kato too wore a mask and was dressed like a chauffeur. The two certainly didn't win any awards for original fashion. The Green Hornet's car was the Black Beauty. This vehicle was created long before Batman's Batmobile and had every gadget inside that you could think of, from rocket blasters to laser beams. The Green Hornet also had a Hornet Gun which could blow the locks clean off of doors. The one thing fairly unique about the Hornet, especially for the times, was that he was looked at as a bad guy. This made his job that much harder with the police also on his tail. The comic eventually made its way to a hit TV series starring Van Williams and the ever popular Bruce Lee.
