Celebrity Hair Styles - Think Before You Copy!
by sarina methot - Friday, 28 December 2007, 05:39 AM
Anyone in the world

By Michael Barrows Ever turn on the television and become instantly infatuated with the latest celebrity hair style sported by Jennifer Aniston or other highly-emulated celebrities? If so, you are not alone. In fact, most fashion trends actually begin after a celebrity has worn them and the same is true when it comes to celebrity hair styles. Just think of Ashton Kutcher and how many men now wear his tousled celebrity hair style. How about Kate Winslet and all of her manifestations? The truth is that styling your tresses similar to a celebrity hair style is hot. But should you always turn to celebrities to find your latest style, and how can you mirror the celebrity hair style when celebrities have a staff of professionals catering to their every hair whim? There are good reasons on both sides of the equation when it comes to choosing a celebrity hair style. For some, a celebrity hair style can be the perfect answer when they find themselves in a style slump. For others, choosing a celebrity hair style can be a big mistake. Here are just a few of the pros and cons when it comes to celebrity hair styles. Why you should copy 1. Celebrities have access to some of the most talented and highest paid beauty professionals in the industry. While you may not be able to afford a consult with one of these style legends yourself, you have the perfect opportunity to see and emulate their work with a celebrity hair style. 2. For the most part, celebrities are on the cutting edge of fashion. When you choose a celebrity hair style, you do not have to worry about looking dated or being out of style. 3. C'mon let's face it. We look up to celebrities because they always look fashionable and beautiful. If you are looking for a celebrity hair style to pull your look together, then there is no better place to look than to the stars. Why not to copy 1. Celebrities are seen by virtually everybody, and when a new celebrity hair style causes a sensation, you can be sure that everyone will be trying to emulate it. So, while you may be thinking that you are going to look sensational with your new celebrity hair style, you may end up looking like a copy cat. 2. Celebrities do not have to choose easy styles because they have hair stylists and make-up artists solely dedicated to making them look beautiful. On the other hand, you probably do not. So, be careful not to choose a celebrity hair style that will have you pulling out your hair when you have to spend hours keeping it up. 3. Stylists to the stars choose particular celebrity hair styles for their clients because they are perfect for their face shape and type and texture of hair. Not everybody can pull off every style. Be careful not to choose a celebrity hair style that makes you look ridiculous. While there are pros and cons to everything, choosing a celebrity hair style should be something that you give some thought to before making a final decision. Not everyone is worth millions, but you can look like you are if you choose your celebrity hair styles wisely. Michael Barrows' website gives great advice for good hair. The Best And Most Efficient Way To Carry Worms While River Fishing
by sarina methot - Thursday, 27 December 2007, 05:38 AM
Anyone in the world

By Trevor Kugler One of the biggest problems that we as river and stream fishermen face is how to efficiently carry a container of worms with us on our next fishing trip. If you are anything like me a river fishing trip can cover a couple of miles of river and involve crossing said river three to ten times. I carry my spinners, spoons, split-shot, pliers, and hooks in my fishing vest. So all of my fishing equipment is easily accessible, and ready to go. I used to have a problem with where to carry a couple of containers of worms. I would just put them in my vest and go from there. But then I ran into the problem of them getting hot and dieing, and not to mention the fact that it was a complete pain in the rear-end to access them. It just wasn't efficient at all. It got to the point that I wouldn't even use worms because it was such a fiasco to take them with me and use them. Then I met my fishing mentor and he was doing something that I saw as ingenious! It was one of the simplest and most effective things that I had ever seen. He had taken an old sock from his sock drawer, and cut the end where your foot goes off. This created a little "bag" of sorts. This "bag" was then attached with a safety pin to your vest. Well, this little "bag" fit a container of worms in it perfectly. You would simply take the worms out of the container and put them into the sock bag. When it got too hot outside, you simply dipped the sock full of worms into the cool water, and they were good to go. And believe it or not, the worms don't crawl out! They all just stay in a ball in the bottom of the bag, waiting to be used as your next piece of live bait. It's true; I've been using this method for more than 20 years and have never had the little buggers crawl out. This method also helps with the problem of Styrofoam worm containers being left along a stream or river. Since you're taking the worms out of the container before you are actually fishing, the container waits at your vehicle, not on the river. This is another wonderful aspect of this kind of carrier....no pollution. So there you have it. Make your own sock bag in order to carry your worms or power bait or whatever, or go somewhere like JRWfishing.com and purchase one that's much cooler looking a bit larger than a sock hanging from your vest or shirt. Either way, the important thing is to take advantage of this little jewel of information. I promise you, if you implement this idea into your next river fishing trip, you will not be disappointed. It's one of the most convenient ideas that I've ever come across. Trevor Kugler

You Have to Probe Deeper: Why First Impressions Are Dangerous
by sarina methot - Tuesday, 25 December 2007, 01:59 AM
Anyone in the world

By Azriel Winnett Do you remember when, as a small child at a birthday party, you sat wide-eyed and gaping as a magician pulled out a rabbit with a flourish from a seemingly empty top hat?

At the time, the wonder of it all left you speechless and full of awe, but like all healthy children, you grew a little wiser as you grew a little older.
The next time you were present at such a performance, the "magician" might have turned into a "conjurer." You might have enjoyed the show every bit as much, but you now knew that sleight of hand, not black magic, was the name of the game.

It's a great pity that when we finally emerge into adulthood, we tend to forget what we learned about those crafty conjurers who entertained us in our youth.

Yes, our intellects may have matured greatly over the years. But for all that, we don't draw enough on our youthful understanding of the "sleight of hand" concept to make further logical distinctions along the same lines.

More specifically, and simply put, we often don't appreciate enough that things are not always what they're cracked up to be!
The end result is that we fall prone to a kind of mental laziness that allows us to accept everything that bombards our senses at face value, without probing deeper. At times, we may even regress so much that we are still viewing life's events as the small child views his first magician show.
It's not only little toddlers at birthday parties whose mind's are deceived. If you're at all human (and who isn't), it may happen to you almost very day.

A woman was once riding on a subway train when six exceptionally boisterous children burst into the carriage and plunked themselves down on a seat near her. Almost automatically, the woman cringed. She wondered how she would survive the rest of the journey.

Then a few seconds later a gentleman stepped into the coach, trudged in a rather lethargic manner over to the children, and sighing deeply, sat down next to them. The woman relaxed a little. He must be their father, and undoubtedly he would keep the young brats in order.

But to her consternation, the five kids didn't let up in their wild exuberance for a second. They continued to jump up and down and race around the coach, yelling their little lungs out all the while, while the father just sat there in almost a trance-like state, as if deep in a meditation exercise.

Finally, our lady passenger could tolerate this no longer. She went over to the father and berated him in the strongest language she could command for not exerting himself to control his insufferable children.

"Yes, you're right," he acknowledged very softly, his voice almost choking. "They really should behave with more consideration. We're just now returning from the hospital, where their mother died two hours ago..."

This widespread human failing - of neglecting to look below the surface - is the root cause of much of the misery that people inflict both on themselves and upon others. It leads to hasty judgments and overly superficial evaluations that wreak havoc with all kinds of social relationships.

The inclination to pass hasty judgment on the actions of our peers is indeed an all too human one. Inevitably it leads to feelings of resentment and other powerful emotions, none of which are too good for either our physical or emotional health. More significantly, our tendency to jump to conclusions must obviously lead to negative consequences regarding our relationship with the person or people concerned.

This is especially true when our suspicions turn out to be unfounded, or the people had valid reasons for behaving as they did. And this happens more frequently than any of us would care to admit. We forget that we are often in a position of someone who starts a novel at chapter three!

Practical exercises

So what are we going to do about it? Each one of us is as human as the next person. Can we really change our inborn natures?
Yes, we certainly can! Surely nothing worthwhile comes easy, but change is well within our ability. And I can prove it to you. Do you know how?

When it comes to judging our own selves, we all suddenly have a remarkable capacity to judge favorably. When we are say, late for an appointment or forget to keep a promise, we're usually not slow in finding excuses for ourselves. After all, we have so much on our mind or are working under such stress. (Of course, when another does the same to us, we find no justification for such rudeness, ingratitude or inconsideration!)

And if we can be lenient with ourselves, we can train ourselves to be lenient with others as well. It's a matter of practice - analogous to excercising a weak muscle to strengthen it.
We can kill the habit of looking only at the surface by training ourselves to give our family, friends and colleagues the benefit of the doubt, in all sorts of situations that come up in daily life. Here are a couple of examples:

You arrange to meet your friend downtown for coffee at a certain time. You wait and wait, but she doesn't show up. From the window during the bus journey home, you see her strolling casually down the street. The expected phone call of apology also doesn't materialize.
Think of possible valid reasons for your friend's seemingly inexplicable conduct. Perhaps she misunderstood the date or time you arranged? Perhaps what looked like a casual stroll from the fast moving bus was really a rush to an emergency? Perhaps her phone is out of order?
You have an ongoing ailment and you have to report weekly at the clinic for a certain medical test. Usually, the nurse in charge hands you the result on the spot. This time, a new nurse is on duty. She declines to tell you the result, citing official policy that only a doctor can give it to you at a prearranged appointment. You're fuming, because you know no one gives a hoot for official policy at this clinic.
Consider that this time the test result might not be exactly what you were hoping it would be, but the nurse wasn't sure whether she was interpreting it correctly. Perhaps she had been loathe to upset you - possibly for nothing - until she had checked with the doctor. More likely than not, this is what actually happened!

A final tip: here's one technique to help you feel positive even to people who annoy you. When somebody does something that makes you mad, don't start cursing or thinking to yourself "What a horrible pest!"

Close your eyes for a moment, either physically or mentally. Try to imagine that person as a baby. Conjure up in your mind an image of that person's mother, taking up that baby in her arms with feelings of joy and unqualified love.
Now, close your eyes tighter and try to feel a little bit of that love.

3 Resume Secrets the Pros Use
by sarina methot - Monday, 24 December 2007, 05:45 AM
Anyone in the world

By Kevin Donlin You don't write a resume every day. Not even every month or year, most likely. So you can't be expected to do it flawlessly every time, right? After all, you're not a professional. Well, I am. My team and I have written or edited nearly 5,000 resumes over the past nine years. And there are a handful of secrets we use to get the job done, and get our clients hired. Now, for the first time, I'd like to share with you three of my proven methods for writing a resume that gets results. Fast. Here they are ... 1) Focus on One Specific Job I can't tell you how many times I've heard job seekers say, "I want a resume I can use to apply for many jobs, like Project Manager, IT Manager and HR Manager, for example." My response: You can't. Writing a resume that tries to be all things to all employers is like trying to ride a horse in all directions at once. You'll get nowhere fast. Before writing one word of your resume, it's essential that you first choose one job title or function, such as project management. Then aim your resume in that direction. Every sentence in your resume should try to convince employers that you are the person to hire for that one job. But never more than one. Because you'll only end up confusing readers with a "one-size-fits-all" resume. And a confused mind will always say no. Which can spell doom for your job search. 2) Use a "Skill Skeleton" Once you tailor your resume with one job in mind, try to focus further and come up with a short list of skills to build the entire document around. I refer to this as a "skill skeleton." Let me explain. You may be an awesome project manager, for example. But what are the three or four skills that make you so special? Is it your ability to finish projects early and under budget? Your skill at leading others? A knack for negotiating the lowest prices with vendors? These areas of expertise make up your "skill skeleton." Try to make them a recurring theme throughout your resume. Emphasize them again and again when describing your success stories on the job and in school. Using a "skill skeleton" like this will force you to focus on a core message that's compelling and easy for employers to remember. And, of course, it should make the phone ring with job offers! 3) Be Truthful AND Believable You already know you must be 100% truthful in your resume -- your GPA, actual degrees from actual schools, accurate dates, etc. That's basic stuff. But it's not enough for YOU to believe what you're saying. The employer has to believe it, too. To encourage that, back up the claims in your resume any way you can, using specific numbers, dollars, percentages and dates. Here are some wrong and right ways to make your resume more believable ... WRONG
"Many years of experience" RIGHT
"Seven years of award-winning experience" WRONG
"Saved time and money" RIGHT
"Saved $437,450 and reduced cycle time by 23 days" See the difference? Specific facts and figures are more believable than generalizations. Always. Every time. For best results, get written documentation for all of your claims, then bring these documents to the interview, where you can expand on points of interest in your resume face-to-face with a hiring manager. Now go out and make your own luck! Kevin Donlin is President of Guaranteed Resumes. Off the Wagon on New Year's Resolutions? Use SMART Goals
by sarina methot - Sunday, 23 December 2007, 12:09 AM
Anyone in the world

By Kelly Honeybrook We are now at the start of March and some of those New Years resolutions are looking a little shaky. We may even have fallen off the wagon already. Psychologist say the majority of New Years resolutions do not work or are not fulfilled because theyre based on wishful thinking rather than a deep commitment. If youve stuck to a past resolution, congratulations! Here is a list of the top ten NY resolutions. Did yours make the list? 1. Get Fit 2. Spend time with friends & family 3. Lose weight 4. Quit smoking 5. Quit drinking 6. Enjoy life more 7. Get out of debt 8. Learn something new 9. Help others 10. Get organised You dont have to wait until next year to set some goals for yourself. Goals are designed to make your life a little easier and happier. Whilst goals are a good idea to help you formulate a desired plan for living, it is best that they are realistic, flexible and short term (a few months). To help you make the most out of your goals, try using the S-M-A-R-T model. Specific - This means you goal is exact and to the point. Rather than I will take up walking to lose weight, try, I will walk 5 mornings a week. Measurable - This means that you will know when you have reached your goal. For example I want to lose 10 kg. Achievable - Is it practical? Do you have to get up an hour earlier to go for your walk? Will you have to drive out of your way to get to the gym or is it on the way home? Relevant - Your goal is something that you know you will achieve and it won't be impossible to reach. Does it fit in with you? Can you afford to lose 10 kg and remain healthy? Timely - This means that the amount of time you have to reach your goal is reasonable. For Example, It will take me 3 months to lose 10 kgs. SMART goals can be used in any situation from New Years Resolutions, career or relationship goals to business plans. Using the SMART model can help you minimise failures and help you achieve realistic goals in your life. By Kelly Honeybrook - Director - Home Buddies - Find local services for parents & homeowners. The (Marketing) Mystery of the Carnival
by sarina methot - Saturday, 22 December 2007, 09:12 AM
Anyone in the world

By Sheri Salomone The (Marketing) Mystery of the Carnival My first summer out with the Carnival, I didnt make much money. I wasnt there to make money; I was there for adventure and romance. My boss was always yelling at me and asking me, are you ready to make some money now? I didnt get it. I shrugged my shoulders, what the hell was he talking about? Looking back now, I can understand why he was so upset. I was taking up valuable space in a choice location on the midway and not bringing in much money. It was my own attitude that prevented me from making money. I still hadnt resolved the feeling that it was kind of a gyp. I had no idea how much money I was missing out on. How could he blame me for being young and ignorant, though? That was before I met a guy who said his name was Tim Sell. Was that his real name? probably not. Nobody in the carnival business goes by their real name for one reason or another, even if its that its just not cool.He was a pretty average looking guy, hair a bit longish, as was the style those days. His teeth were slightly crooked, but he had a nice smile, and a gentle manner that was disarming. He acted like everything was no big deal. How do you do that? I asked him as we laced up the awnings for the night. Do what? Get such a big tip without saying a word!? Its the mystery of the carnival, he said in a phony, drawn out voice, as if he was a sideshow announcer talking into a megaphone, describing the two-headed cow or the woman who gets sawed in half. Seriously though, he explained, everybody comes to the fair with a certain amount of money. They have some in their wallet that they know they are going to spend. They are planning to spend it all here, somewhere, today. Then they usually have some more tucked away in case of emergency. I always assume that the amount of money they have is unlimited. I try not to judge what I think they have or can afford to spend, and Ill tell you why. I used to work next to this guy named Lloyd. No matter what I did, Lloyd would always re-hash my marks. I would play them until I thought they were out of money. They would walk away, and Lloyd would call them back. And almost every time, they would pull out more money, and trade in my prize to Lloyd for a bigger one. The weirdest part is the ones who looked like they didnt have any money, would spend the most. Lloyd was a schmoozer, he would have these middle aged ladies pulling money out of their bras, guys pulling money out of their shoes, and it was amazing. So now I assume the supply is endless, and I dont limit my self. But I also learned by watching Lloyd, dont work them too hard. That slippery-tongued devil would talk some little old lady out of her next months rent and afterward, she would regret it. I dont like to work like that. I always make sure they have a little money left when they leave here. If some young dumb teenager trying to impress a girl gets caught up in the moment, runs through all his money and blows his last buck, I will kick him back a couple bucks and tell him to go buy the girl a hot dog, on me. Then theres this guy with three kids, all crying, they see all these toys and they want one. He knows that there are two kinds of games on the midway. The hard games, like ring the coke bottle, where the odds are against you, but you might get lucky and win a giant prize for a buck, or you might spend a whole lot of dough and get nothing. He wants to get three prizes for his kids; he doesnt really care if they are giant. In fact he doesnt really have room in the car, or his apartment for them. He knows that he will be the one who winds up carrying them all day. No, he wants three medium small prizes, and he wants them fast. He knows at the easy game he is guaranteed to get something. Now it is our job to make sure he gets what he came for. We are just here to collect the money. And if he has a good time, hes going to hang around for a while and let the kids play too. We have the opportunity to make this guy look like big hero in the eyes of his wife and kids. Suddenly, the game didnt feel like such a gyp to me anymore. The way Tim described it, hell; we are doing this guy a huge favor. He went on for a while, describing scenario after scenario whereby we are simply the stewards of a process that makes WINNERS out of ordinary people. Down in Mercedes, Texas, nobody speaks English. All the other carnys are freaking out because they cant speak Spanish, and they dont know how they are going to make any money this week. I only say one sentence in Spanish. Aqui se tiren las carterras. It means here is where you throw your wallets. The Mexicans crack up, they think Im a funny guy and I slap them on the back a few times and say Si a lot. They blow their whole wad at my joint. You dont even have to try, he said, You just stand here and hold out your hand, and somebody will walk up and put money in it. You dont have to say a word. Dont let them ask a bunch of questions and waste your time. Just point to the basket, point to the sign, and hold out your hand. Make it easy for them. I guarantee somebody will walk up and put money in your hand. Its the mystery of the carnival, he said in that slow, phony voice. Believe it or not, everything I learned in my five years on the road has changed the way I view the rest of my life. Tim was teaching me usability and marketing skills that I try to apply to my web design. Make it easy for them. Everybody has a certain amount of expendable cash; we just have to make it easy to:

9 Biggest Weight Loss Blunders: Why You May Not Be Losing Weight No Matter What You Do
by sarina methot - Friday, 21 December 2007, 01:44 AM
Anyone in the world

By Jennifer Murray 1. Unless your weight loss plan is proactive and personalized, your weight loss efforts are destined to fail. Fix: Keep it real. Figure out what will and will not work for you personally. If you're too busy to cook on weeknights, spend a few hours on the weekend to shop and prepare meals you can enjoy throughout the week. Get some healthy crockpot recipes so that a healthy dinner is cooking while you go about your day. 2. Too many foods on your "bad food" list. Fix: Do not cut entire categories of food from your diet. According to Dayle Hayes, M.S., R.D., a nutrition consultant, "Any time you eliminate whole food groups (such as dairy, carbs, and high GI foods like carrots and beets), you wipe out important nutrients." So tackle the bigger issue of planning, shopping, and preparing meals that contain some of the healthy foods on your "bad food" list. 3. You're gaining in the double digits. Gaining 10 or more pounds is going to require a bigger commitment to weight loss than if you only gain 5 pounds. Fix: Nip weight gain in the bud. Keep a food diary to track calories and emotional eating. Get monthly body fat checks. By reviewing your progress regularly and making small, doable changes to your eating and exercise habits, the next time you step o n the scale, you will see results. 4. You don't plan ahead. Fix: Getting hungry is normal, so instead of denying the fact that you will get hungry, plan ahead for the times when you know you're going to feel those hunger pangs; otherwise, you're likely to eat too much of the wrong foods. Never go more than 4 to 5 hours without eating. Also, bring health lunches and snacks to work that you can eat at your desk. 5. You cut out all fat. A low-fat diet is a great way to lose pounds, but cutting out all fat is bound to fail you. Fix: Recent research shows that eating a little more healthy (most monosaturated fat) combined with a diet rich in fiber and lean protein (like skim milk) can actually help you lose weight because you will stay full longer. Enjoy controlled portions of fatty foods like olive oil, avocados, salmon, and nuts, and you might just find it easier than ever to lose those unwanted pounds. 6. You forget about calories. Research shows that many of us forget what we eat during the day or ignore anything we don't actually see in our food (secret sauces, added fat, sugar and calories we sip instead of chew). Fix: Pay attention to what you're eating. Too many nibbles and sips can quickly add up and those "lost" calories will show up on your butts, abs, and thighs. 7. You cut out all meat just to shed unwanted weight. Deciding to go vegetarian has many great health reasons, but weight loss isn't one of them. Why? Because most people who eliminate meat aren't eating that much of it to begin with. In fact, research shows that many people who completely cut meat out of their diet actually gain weight because they replace meat with piles of pasta and rice (foods that more than make up for meat calories without providing protein's staying power). Fix: For a smooth transition to a meat-free lifestyle, consider taking a vegetarian cooking class or consult with a nutritionist for a healthy eating plan that satisfies you and coves all nutritional bases. 8. You're stuck on the same meals. When it comes to your diet, you eat the same "safe foods" (yogurt, salad, grilled chicken) every single day of the week. However, too little variety can leave you feeling deprived. Eating the same thing every day can lead to food cravings, binge eating, and weight gain. Fix: Try different flavors of yogurt or cereal for breakfast, mix and match a few of your high-fiber cereals with a variety of fruits, mix chicken into a savory soup. Basically, add some variety to avoid burnout. 9. Forgetting exercise. When it comes to weight loss, one of the biggest mistakes that people make is not realizing that some type of physical activity is key to losing those unwanted pounds. Fix: Try to get in some type of physical activity at least 5 days per week. Whether it be walking, aerobics, weight training, walking the dog, anything that requires some movement. Don't forget that everything you do will count towards your daily activity requirements, including cleaning, taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Exercise is key not only to losing weight, but your overall sense of health and well-being. Managing Your Cholesterol - The Best Way To Prevent Hearth Attacks

Anyone in the world

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Richard_Clement] Richard Clement Cholesterol is one of the most familiar medical words today. Everyone knows something about it , but mostly cholesterol is associated in our mind with something bad and unwanted that happens to old and overweight people. The facts show that about 20 percent of the U.S. population has high blood cholesterol levels. Actually holesterol is a waxy, fatlike substance (lipid) that your body needs for many important functions, such as producing new cells , some hormones, vitamin D, and the bile acids that help to digest fat.. It is present in cell walls or membranes everywhere in the body, including the brain, nerves, muscle, skin, liver, intestines, and heart.
In fact our bodies need cholesterol to function normally, but too much cholesterol can be bad for our health. Why ? Cholesterol and other fats can't dissolve in the blood. They have to be transported to and from the cells by special carriers. Cholesterol travels through your blood attached to a protein. This cholesterolprotein package is called a lipoprotein. Lipoproteins are high density or low density depending on how much protein there is in relation to fat. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is the major cholesterol carrier in the blood. If too much LDL cholesterol circulates in the blood, it can slowly build up in the walls of the arteries feeding the heart and brain. Together with other substances it can form plaque, a thick, hard deposit that can clog those arteries. When the coronary arteries become narrowed or clogged by cholesterol and fat deposits (a process called atherosclerosis) and cannot supply enough blood to the heart, the result is coronary heart disease. If the blood supply to a portion of the heart is completely cut off by total blockage of a coronary artery, the result is a heart attack. This is usually due to a sudden closure from a blood clot forming on top of a previous narrowing. Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol is called "bad" cholesterol because it can cause cholesterol buildup and blockage of your arteries. LDL is mostly fat with only a small amount of protein. About one-third to one-fourth of blood cholesterol is carried by high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Medical experts think HDL tends to carry cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver, where it's passed from the body. Some experts believe HDL removes excess cholesterol from plaques and thus slows their growth. HDL is called "good" cholesterol because it helps prevent cholesterol from building up in your arteries. It is mostly protein with only a small amount of fat. Since there is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol it is not only necessary to know your cholesterol level ,it is also important to know your levels of LDL and HDL. The fact is that there are no symptoms of high cholesterol. Your first symptom of high cholesterol could be a heart attack or a stroke. The level of cholesterol can be measured only with a blood test. The results come as three main numbers: Total Cholesterol
LDL
HDL
The level of LDL should be less than 160.
Total cholesterol should be less than 200.
The level of HDL should be more than 35.
Most Important: Your LDL level is a good indicator of your risk for heart disease. Lowering LDL is the main aim of treatment if you have high cholesterol. In general, the higher your LDL level, the greater your chance of developing heart disease. Remember : Regular cholesterol tests are recommended to find out if your cholesterol level is within normal range. WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT YOUR LDL CHOLESTEROL LEVELS? The main cause of high blood cholesterol is eating too much fat, especially saturated fat. Saturated fats are found in animal products, such as meats, milk and other dairy products that are not fat free, butter, and eggs. Some of these foods are also high in cholesterol. Fried fast foods and snack foods often have a lot of fat. Being overweight and not exercising can make your bad cholesterol go up and your good cholesterol go down. Regular physical activity can help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and raise HDL (good) cholesterol levels. It also helps you lose weight. You should try to be physically active for 30 minutes on most, if not all, days. Cigarette smoking damages the walls of your blood vessels, making them likely to have cholesterol rich plaques rupture and have heart attacks. Smoking may also lower your level of HDL cholesterol by as much as 15 percent. Also, after women go through menopause, their bad cholesterol levels tend to go up. There is also a rare type of inherited high cholesterol that often leads to early heart disease. Some people inherit a condition called familial hypercholesterolemia, which means that very high cholesterol levels run in the family.Other people, especially people for whom diabetes runs in the family, inherit high triglyceride levels. Triglycerides are another type of blood fat that can also push up cholesterol levels. People with high blood triglycerides usually have lower HDL cholesterol and a higher risk of heart attack and stroke. Progesterone, anabolic steroids and male sex hormones (testosterone) also lower HDL cholesterol levels. So we can make a conclusion that the main therapy is to change your lifestyle. This includes controlling your weight, eating foods low in saturated fat and cholesterol, exercising regularly, not smoking and, in some cases, drinking less alcohol. But , depending on your risk factors, if healthy eating and exercise don't work after about 6 months to 1 year, your doctor may suggest medicine to lower your cholesterol level. Now there are very effective medications called statins, such as Lipitor.
The drug works by helping to clear harmful low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol out of the blood and by limiting the body's ability to form new LDL cholesterol. Each tablet Lipitor includes 20mg Atorvastatin. It is in a class of medications called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. It works by slowing the production of cholesterol in the body. Lipitor has shown the ability to halt, not just slow, the potentially fatal buildup of plaque in clogged arteries. While a handful of drugs now available slow the buildup of new plaque, or atherosclerosis, in coronary arteries, no drug on the market has been proven to both stop new build-up and clear existing plaque.
