Enjoy the Beautiful Hobby of Origami
by mary clemmons - Saturday, 8 December 2007, 07:57 AM
Anyone in the world

By Mike Freemen The practice of origami, or paper folding, has long been one of the most popular of hobbies, and origami is certainly one of the oldest of all crafts. The exact origins of the art of origami are still shrouded in mystery. It is known, however, that paper was first developed in China during the first century A.D. By the sixth century A.D., Buddhist monks had brought this new invention to Japan. It is unclear, however, whether the art of folding paper we known today as origami originated in the Japanese or Chinese culture. It is widely recognized, however, that it was the Japanese who raised origami to a high art form. The very word origami is a Japanese word. The term oru translates to to fold, while the term kami translates to paper. Many schoolchildren use the art of origami to make gifts for family members and friends, and origami is one of the simplest, and least expensive, crafts for teachers to do with their students. In addition to those ever present paper airplanes (often made without the teachers approval), origami is often used in school to create elaborate birds, animals, boats and toys. Birds are a frequent subject of origami art, no doubt due to the special place birds hold in Oriental culture. In addition, there are a host of origami animals that can be created, and virtually any object can be created using the origami skills crafters have learned. As with any type of activity, the art of origami has its own unique language. As one becomes familiar with the art of origami, one will also learn such terms as mountain fold, valley fold, square base and bird base. The various bases and folds used in origami can be combined to make a wide variety of different objects using a limited number of basic techniques. This makes origami one of the most versatile of all craft forms. Origami is one of the least expensive of all crafts to pursue. After all, the only thing needed for origami is paper and some skill and imagination. For those in search of a more elaborate origami experience, craft stores, both on the internet and in the brick and mortar world, sell wonderful origami kits that contain everything needed to create some truly unique and wonderful origami creations. From special paper to full patterns and instructions, these origami kits are a great way for any new origami enthusiast to get off to a great start. Men and Women Dancing? Why Bother
by mary clemmons - Thursday, 6 December 2007, 11:26 PM
Anyone in the world

By Romona Blythe Okay, generalization time: White men just cant dance, period. Everybody knows about the huge difference between the way men dance and the way women dance. Now remember, this is a general observation; there are always exceptions. I won't say that all men can't dance, but generally speaking, they do seem to be trying to fit their movements to the words, and not the music. They also usually approach dancing with a certain serious attitude akin to their appraisal of, say, real estate trends or the stock market. A serious approach toward dancing anything other than the Tango is every bit as bad as an easy-come-easy-go attitude toward brain surgery. Doesn't work. In the final analysis, though, I've found that men probably do get something out of dancing (after having been badgered into it and dragged onto the floor). They pay more attention to the lyrics, (since theyre dancing to them), so they usually remember them better than women do. And, while they generally dont provide as graceful a display as women, they don't fall down as much on the dance floor either, because they hardly ever pick up their feet. I just wish they were having a better time. Heres a little vignette about how we women solve this dilemma where I live, in the depths of Mexico: It was one of those typically tropical evenings, sultry and full of flowers and wine. We dont live exactly in the tropics, but the area around Lake Chapala is close enough most of the year. We went to our favorite restaurant/bar for dinner, La Tasca. It hovers just at the edge of the biggest lake in Mexico. The lake from the patio is a gorgeous sight, especially around dinner time, which we usually take at sunset, whatever the clock says. We all had Shrimp Coco, by the way, a local specialty of prawns in coconut, deep fried and artistically displayed on the plate. And wine, of course, the red Chilean wine whose name I always forget. What with the fabulous view and all, we women were ready to dance. The men, of course, preferred to smoke stogies out on the huge veranda and twiddle thumbs. (Yes, one can actually still smoke in Mexico.) The sun went down, the stars came out, and then it happened. They started playing a great Cumbia. All the women jumped up and started writhing happily on the dance floor to the irresistible beat. Nothing but a bunch of bobbing heads, with an occasional high-flung hand. Not one man was so moved. Nobody cared. Molding Leather Armor
by mary clemmons - Wednesday, 5 December 2007, 10:26 PM
Anyone in the world

By Dwain Berlin In order to mould leather armor, soak it in water until it becomes pliable and soft. Then place it in the mould until it dries and hardens. Cuir Bouilli The application of heat will make the leather harder. If you were making a cover for a shield, for example, or other pieces of leather amour, the leather would be dipped quickly in boiling water before being moulded. This is called cuir bouilli, a process employed in making leather armor. Using vegetable tanned leather with at least a weight of 8 ounces, soak the piece in cold water. This will ensure a uniform absorption when the leather armor is placed in the boiling water. Heat a pot of water to 180 degrees Fahrenheit, then immerse the wet leather for approximately thirty seconds to a minute, until it darkens and begins to curl. Remove the leather from the water and stretch it around the mould you have prepared, tacking it in place. Allow for shrinkage if you are cutting the leather armor from a pattern. Of course you can water-harden a larger piece of leather, flatten it under a cutting board, and then cut out the individual pieces of leather armor you want, and then mould them to the desired shape. At this stage it will be very stretchy. The boiling process makes the leather armor thicker and harder, with a degree of shrinkage dependent upon the leather itself and the amount of immersion time. The longer it remains in the water, the more pronounced the effects. A twenty second immersion can result in a shrinkage of 7/8s, with a thickening of 25%, while a forty second immersion results in a 2/3rds shrinkage and a doubling of the thickness. As in any aspect of leather working, it is best to experiment with scrap pieces of leather first to get the effect you want. Types of Moulds / Single Mould Moulds can consist of one or more pieces. Folding the leather around the actual object for which a cover is being made, where the mould is the object, is an option when making a case for a gun, an arm guard in archery, a sheaf for a knife or eye-caps for binoculars. Use tacks to hold it in place while it dries. A Two-piece Mould A two-piece mould acts like two slices of bread, with the leather being the sandwich filling. In this way, leather armor shields were made. The leather armor is left in the mould until it dries. A Three-piece Mould A three-piece mould allows the creation of items like bags and eyeglass cases without using a gusset. The leather is sewn on three sides. Two pieces of the mould are inserted on either side of the interior of the wet leather, and then a wedge is driven between the middle. The forms are left until the leather is dried. Tools to Use * Wooden mould * Brass or steel tacks Summary * Make a mould to form the leather to the desired shape * Wet the leather * One piece mould: fit the wet leather armor over the mould * Two piece mould: sandwich the leather between the mould * Three piece mould: fit the pieces inside the leather * Leave the leather armor to dry before removing Hey! The Best Tools for the Vegetable Gardener
by mary clemmons - Wednesday, 5 December 2007, 04:05 AM
Anyone in the world

By Carlos Herramenta Theres an electric or electronic gadget for just about every task from crushing ice to blowing leaves and dirt from the sidewalk. However, the average homeowner is on a par with the Ethiopian subsistence farmer when it comes to the tools used for gardening. While there are motorized tillers that turn over the soil before planting seeds, these cumbersome, noisy, and often expensive devices are more suited to planting the annual vegetable garden than maintaining home landscaping and flower beds. The kind of shovel, rake and hoe that you use in your yard are most suitable to day-to-day maintenance of your grass, trees, bushes and flowers. The shovels that are used in the yard are curved with a rounded blade at the tip of the shovel for breaking into the soil. When the user applies foot power, the shovel is driven in the hard ground. The garden shovel has a hand grip at the top and comes with a long, roughly 4-foot tapered handle or with a short handle. Both handles work well in the garden and your choice in length is merely a matter of preference. At least two types of rakes are needed for gardening leaf rake and bow rake. The leaf rakes is used in fall to sweep over debris and catch it in its long finger-like tines. These tines are lightweight and flexible metal or plastic. The action of raking can be especially hard on one's back muscles. Therefore, some people prefer to use a more ergonomically designed leaf rake with interesting-looking zigzag tines to eliminate stress on the back. Hoes are an efficient tool to help gardeners rid of weeds. Quality hoes have a long handle with a hooked metal blade and a fairly sharp bottom edge. Rather than resorting to the backbreaking work of weeding by hand, these tools easily penetrate the soil and with a swift swipe will quickly and easily loosen and remove weeds from the garden area. The weeds can then be raked away. Gardening can be rough on the hands; so, many tools are designed to make tough handwork easier. For instance, a good pair of lightweight leather gardening gloves go a long way toward protecting the hands from dirt, grass stains, thorns and more. Another useful accessory is a trowel for planting individual plants from trays or flats, which many people purchase from local nurseries. Correct preparation of the soil is important to make sure a trowel works well. A good trowel fits well into the contour of your hand. For clipping dead flowers that zap too much energy away from the healthier parts of the plant, a pair of hand pruning shears does the duty neatly. If you purchase these smaller tools along with the larger gadgets, your vegetable garden will be easier and more enjoyable to maintain. How To Use A Payday Loan
by mary clemmons - Tuesday, 4 December 2007, 01:55 AM
Anyone in the world

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Peter_Kenny]Peter Kenny If you are a week or two away from payday and need cash urgently, then a payday loan might be the answer. Payday loans are short-term loans that give you the money you need until you get, at which time you have to pay the money back. Payday loans are also known as cash advance loans or cheque loans. If you are in need of cash before payday, then this guide can help you to decide if payday loans are right for you. How much can I borrow? The amount of money that you can borrow is usually quite low, because the loan is for the short term and you can get it quickly. Somewhere between 50 and 400 is the usual amount. The way you get a loan is that you write a personal cheque for a certain amount of money plus the fees, and then the lender will give you that money in cash. The lender will hold the check until your next payday, and then if your situation is better the lender will cash it in. If you still cannot pay, you can pay more fees to keep the cheque held for a few more weeks. What are the advantages and disadvantages? The advantages of payday loans is that you can get hold of urgently needed money very quickly, which can get you out of a tight financial situation. The loans are also useful for people who have poor credit and so find it hard to get other types of loans or credit cards. The loans are good if you know you can pay back the amount in a few weeks when you get paid. The biggest disadvantage of payday loans is that the fees are very high. Normally you will have to pay around 10% or more of the cost of what you borrow. So borrowing 100 is going to cost you 110, or even more if you keep extending the borrowing time. You can also end up in a vicious cycle where each month you run out of money too early because of having to pay the original loan back. Payday loans should be used as a last option, or if you know that this month is an exceptional month and you will be back on track afterwards. What are the alternatives? There are a number of alternatives to payday loans, especially if you have good credit. You could use a credit card to pay for the things you need and then pay this amount off at the next payday. Although credit cards have fairly high interest rates, if you know you need more than a few weeks to pay back the amount then this interest is cheaper than a payday loan. If you need more long-term help with debts or lack of money, then a personal loan might be a better option, as long as you can afford the repayments. If you have poor credit, then a payday loan is often the best option because there is no credit check. The only information that needs to be verified is your current employer. If you are struggling for money before you reach the end of the month, then you should look at payday loans as an option to help ease your short-term financial pressures. However, you should make sure that you only borrow as much as you can afford to pay back next month whilst still having enough to make it to the next payday. Be Glad That There's Quarrel in Your Relationship
by mary clemmons - Monday, 3 December 2007, 01:57 AM
Anyone in the world

By Rick Valens Is your love relationship smooth? Have the both of you actually quarreled before? If your answer is yes, then you should be happy and be glad that it happened. But if your answer is however a no, then you should be aware of the danger that you are facing. Hmm did I make things sound a bit too scary? Ha, it is not exactly that serious; dont be scared off by me. Well, I should believe that the both of you are just, still in the sweet honeymoon period of your relationship. In life, we encountered a lot of up and downs. But it is nevertheless, through all these problems and obstacles that we learn to stand up on our feet times and times again despite the falls we had, that made us what we are today. If life were to be so smooth for us, we wouldnt have grown and learn to truly appreciate it. The same goes for love; if a relationship is ever so sweet and smooth, we wouldnt have learn to really appreciate and cherish the love that is between ourselves and our love. It is through the overcoming of all those quarrels and problems, surviving them through together that we truly know that we deeply cherish the love that is between both, strengthening the relationship more than ever. Be glad that there is quarrel between both. It actually means that the both have developed another step further in your relationship. It is only when one is closer to you that a quarrel will then actually happen. I dont suppose you will pick up a quarrel with your partner whom you just started dating? You be just trying all out to please him or her instead, wouldnt you? But do however treat each and every quarrel seriously, especially when the both of you have just started. This is the time for you and your partner to further understand each other more deeply, the time for you to reflect on yourself and honestly think about the relationship. This is the time for the relationship to be tested. A test of your love for one another; whether this relationship is strong enough to withstand any thunderstorm there may be. Well, a survival never fails to further strengthen the relationship, truly cherishing each other ever more. Avoid unnecessary reasoning at the point of a quarrel. Most of the times it will only make things worse, wait till both have cooled down. At the end of the day, always make an effort to find out what actually went wrong. Is it your fault? Talk to each other nicely, share your unhappiness; let your partner know how you felt. A softer tone is always more calming and pleasing to the ears. Your partner will usually be willing to listen and to share his or her feelings with you too. Sometimes it is out of too much care for one another that unwillingly trigger off a quarrel between both? Remember, nobody wanted any quarrel. If you are at fault, please dont be a stubborn donkey, you jolly well apologize and seek for your partners forgiveness. A word of sorry isnt really that hard to say out? There is nothing ashamed to feel of, especially when with your love? Admit your fault, a sincere apology would always be pleasing to the ears; most of the time, harmony it will bring. Nonetheless, if your partner were to apologize to you, you graciously accept it. Why start another quarrel when you could end it? Well, there shouldnt be any overnight grudges between couples. Give each other a good hug. I love you dear, I am really so sorry to have hurt you, please forgive me Now isnt that such a sweet ending? It is usually through so that you understand each other better, cherishing each other even dearly. Remember, love is a two-way communication. It takes two happy persons, a happy you and your love to complete the equation. Rick Valens

Anyone in the world

By Rebecca Johnson If you are having a Las Vegas wedding and want to keep it simple, instead of a reception you may want to have a wedding dinner. The city may be famous for its casinos and wedding chapels, but it also has a lot of really great fine dining establishments in Las Vegas. Any of these dining establishments and even some of the buffets that Las Vegas is known for would all make great options for a wedding dinner.

Here are some ideas for planning a Las Vegas Wedding Dinner:

If you are having a wedding at one of the hotels, consider choosing a dining establishment in that hotel to host your wedding dinner at. This will make it convenient for not only you but for your wedding guests as well.

The Eiffel Tower Restaurant located on the 11th floor of the Paris Hotels replica of the Eiffel Tower offers a stunning location to host a wedding dinner in Las Vegas. The upscale restaurant offers amazing views of the Las Vegas Strip and the Bellagios dancing fountain show, which is located just across the street.

The Stratospheres Top of the World Restaurant offers a similar dining experience but at a much higher elevation. Located at 800 feet high, you will be treated to not only the stunning sites of the Las Vegas Strip but also of the entire Las Vegas Valley.

Dont rule out one of the many buffets in Las Vegas as an option for a wedding dinner. Many of the more upscale resorts like the Bellagio, The Wynn, and Paris offer great buffets. Buffet selections can often include crab legs, shrimp, and prime rib.

Take in the dinner show. Its a great way to provide you and your guest with not only dinner, but some entertainment as well after your wedding ceremony. Las Vegas has some fabulous dinner shows.

Where ever you decide to plan your Las Vegas wedding dinner, make sure to call ahead and make reservations if possible. This will avoid you having to wait in a long line and you can make sure that they are able to accommodate your group. What is Mobile Phone Unlocking? Why Do I Need It?
by mary clemmons - Tuesday, 27 November 2007, 02:59 AM
Anyone in the world

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kellen_Bell]Kellen Bell If your like alot of people and don't know exactly sure what cell phone unlocking is then read on. When you signup for new cellular service and get that "brand new" phone for free more than likely the company has "locked" it to work on only their network. They do this so you believe if you decided to leave their service your phone would be useless, but most of the time this isn't true. Most phones especially GSM (the one's w/simcards in the back) are able to work on more than one network of the same type for example GSM Providers like Tmobile, Cingular, Att&T(GSM), Orange, and more can ALL use the same unlocked phones. Why unlock you phone you might ask. Unlocking your phone allows you to use your phone on different providers. Useful when switching cellphone companies and you don't want to give up your old phone. You can also use different providers when traveling to save on long distance. Just use the local providers pre-paid simcard and instantly save money. You might ask "Why haven't I heard of this before?" The answer is simple, Because THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO! By tricking you into thinking the only way you can keep the phone that you love, the one that you would hate to give up if you switched services. The cellular companies lose money when subscribers leave so of course their not going to tell you that you have a choice. Is it legal? Unlocking your cellphone is perfectly legal, your not hacking, or breaking into anything. Your just restoring the phone to the original factory settings. Unlocking is a pretty simple process. It usually includes a cable to connect your phone to your computer, their fairly cheap on http://www.ebay.com (under $7) and unlocking software ($10, http://www.tigerunlocking.com). Follow the instructions that came with the cable, connect the phone, and run the software. Medical Tourism - A Concept Then - A Phenomenon Now
by mary clemmons - Monday, 26 November 2007, 03:55 AM
Anyone in the world

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Alfred_Anderson] Alfred Anderson The present phenomenon called "Medical Tourism" was conceptualized more than a thousand years back when the Greek pilgrims traveled to the sanctuary of healing god Asklepios at Epidauria to seek medical treatments. Over a period of time Epidauria became a destination for medical tourism. Through the centuries, healthcare had always been a major concern for the average human being. The quality of treatment, degree of cost involved and the convenience of the system have always been the major determinants of a good healthcare system. Post-Epidauria medical science has come a long way; nevertheless some of the developed nations fail to satisfy the healthcare needs of their people despite having great medical infrastructure. United states is one such country where the healthcare expenses have gone out of reach of the general public. While those covered under a medical insurance do not feel the financial pinch, but the ones without a cover suffer the most. As of 2005, about 41.2 million people in the United States did not have a medical insurance. The astronomical healthcare expenses had even led to personal bankruptcy in some cases. Confusing/ multiple medical bills, bulk cash payment upfront, aggressive collection procedures often lead to financial instability. Even the ones covered under a health insurance plan along with the low-income individuals face the risk of a medical debt. Though the quality of medical care at the United States is superlative, the prices charged to avail such a treatment pokes a major hole in common mans pocket. However, its not just the cost factor that makes the healthcare system of United States inaccessible. The waiting period for certain procedures are so long that in some cases a patient ends up waiting for a year or more for the treatment to get started. The rising costs of healthcare and the inconvenience related to its accessibility have made the age-old concept of medical tourism a phenomenon today. Countries like India, Singapore, Thailand and U.A.E have become the most preferred medical tourism destinations for the patients. Not only do they provide world-class medical care at affordable rates but also couples the medical tourism package with a brief sightseeing tour. As a result, people from all over the world are coming to these countries to seek medical treatment. Over 3,74,000 people came to Singapore in the year 2005 to meet their healthcare needs. The medical tourism industry in India is estimated to touch $2 billion by the year 2012. Having visualized the immense potential of the [http://www.recoverdiscover.com/] medical tourism industry, the concerned authorities of these countries are leaving no stones unturned to become the market leader in this industry. While most of the developed nations like that of the United States are still struggling to balance their out of track healthcare system, destinations like India, Singapore and Thailand have surely cashed in this opportunity by attracting a growing number of medical tourists. Direct Response Marketing vs. Traditional Image Marketing: Which Is Better?
by mary clemmons - Sunday, 25 November 2007, 06:06 AM
Anyone in the world

By Michael D. Black There are many different kinds of marketing out there, but the one you are probably most familiar with image branding. Typically when I say marketing people think of expensive Super Bowl ads, car commercials, and billboards. This is what is known as image branding one of the most common (and ineffective) forms of marketing. Now dont get me wrong, image branding works for major corporations like Coca-Cola & McDonalds. And if you have millions of dollars and decades of time, it will work for you too. Unfortunately, if you are like most, you dont have the same resources and time as those big corporations. Most image branding simply states the company name, location, etc, with a logo and a catchy slogan. None of these are compelling reasons to do business with them versus anyone or everyone else. This type of advertising doesnt make a case for the products or services that you sell, and it certainly doesnt direct the prospect to any intelligent buying decision. On the other hand, direct response marketing is designed to get an immediate response or purchasing decision (sale!) from the prospect. It has often been described as salesmanship in print, and it focuses on getting dollars right now not a decade down the road. Direct response marketing tells a complete story presenting facts or reasons why the company / product are superior to all others. It gives your prospects a reason to get up and contact you, as opposed to waiting until they need your service or product and hoping that they might remember your name. Direct response includes benefits that are relevant to the prospect, and produces a sales message that helps your prospect to either solve a problem or avoid a loss. These are the real reasons why people will choose your product or service, not because you have ads printed on glossy paper. And best of all unlike image branding direct response marketing is trackable so you can find out exactly how much each marketing dollar is earning you. When placed side by side there are many differences between image branding ads and direct response ads. Typically a direct response ad will have lots of words, usually in small print, with: 1. A Headline At The Top (to draw the reader in), 2. it lists meaningful specifics, not vague generalities, 3. a promise or guarantee, 4. at least one offer, 5. exact instructions on what to do next, and 6. an extra reason to act right away. Now, open any magazine or newspaper that you have handy and you will see that almost none of the ads have these features. They all look pretty much the same with empty white space and glossy pictures with no headlines and very few words. This is how you will set yourself apart from your competition. By the way, some people actually think that people will not read ads that have lots of words in small print. However, the opposite is true: people want as much information as possible before giving someone their money. You will find that the more information you give your prospect, the better chance that they will respond. That is why all of that white space in ads is such a waste of money. Direct Response Marketing, compared to image-branding, is the clear winner hands down. Put simply direct response marketing is designed to put money in your pocket this very moment, while image based / traditional / institutional marketing is designed to make you money over time; plus it costs you a lot of money in the meanwhile. Unless you have large sums of money and time you shouldnt attempt any image-branding, instead stick with results-driven advertising that provides a trackable return on investment. Michael Black is a Direct Response Marketing Guru located in Colorado Springs, CO and Co-founder of Direct Results Marketing.
