If you are sent by God and you operate within the armbit of your calling, you will be rewarded by God. But if you sent yourself, you will reward yourself. God owes you nothing. If you are sent by God, He will provide the resources for the task according to 1 Corinthians 9:7. But if you sent yourself, it will be at your expense. Some Christians manipulate, lobby and use different means to get promotion in the house of God. Is it possible for a man who is standing to lift himself from where he is? No man can lift himself beyond his toes. It takes one who is higher than you to lift you up. If you manipulate your way to occupy the seat you should not, you may physically occupy that seat, but spiritually you remain where you were. In the true sense of the word, you are demoted for putting yourself where God has not placed you. Stay where God has placed you and faithfully serve Him. In due season, He will reward you. Don't change from denomination to denomination or parish to parish without hearing from Him or else you will take yourself outside His will. Whatever you do outside His will may go unrecorded.
