Reading the Want Ads--Not for Jobs--For Information
by kirbee zanet - Wednesday, 5 March 2008, 01:03 AM
Anyone in the world

By Marilyn Tellez What? Want ads are where job announcements
are, not information! Wait! Job want ads are full of information if
you know what to do and how to use them. Doubtful? Here are some ideas of the kinds
of information you can find as a job seeker.
They are: 1. Start by looking for the ads that are in the
category of jobs you want to apply for. Cut and
paste these job announcements on
paper for later viewing. 2. Read the rest of the ads carefully to see if there
are other jobs advertised from the same places that
you have selected from your own selection.
If there are any, that will give you an idea of what
this company is doing. Maybe it is hiring for several categories.
Example: They may be expanding and looking for
employees for more than one type of job. 3. Look for patterns in the jobs that are advertised.
If there are many in the health field, for example,
then that tells you that health needs are not
completely served in your community. (Yes, it may
be that this is a national trend about health care, not
enough health workers. This is an example of only one
field). 4. The most promiment of these employers may be
who you target for informational interviews if you notice
they have advertised for several positions to be filled.
Start your research here to get personal names of these
employers. Easy research from your local library. 5. Yes, apply for the jobs on your sheet that you
have identified. Look for patterns for at least two
weeks to see if the employer continues to advertise
for the same position/s. If so, either they have not
found credible candidates or the job is not a good
one. Check them out with informational interviewing
anyway. 6. Continue on your "research project" in looking for
patterns of employment possibilities for yourself.
You might want to devise your own list of patterns
to suit your own needs, not just these. 7. Lots of other people get paid to find these
sources of employment. They are often called
labor market researchers. Now you are
one and can find your own job! Marilyn J. Tellez, M.A.

How to Plan a Cheap Wedding
by kirbee zanet - Tuesday, 4 March 2008, 03:19 AM
Anyone in the world

By Claire Bowes Theres no doubt about it, weddings can be expensive. The average cost of a wedding today is $20,000 $25,000, and weddings are estimated to be a $25.3 billion industry. But dont worry if your budget cannot stretch for the most expensive custom-made gown, elegant invitation cards, or the top photographer, it doesnt mean that your wedding will be any less unique or special than anyone elses. You just need a bit of guidance and a few tips to help you achieve the dream of your big day. Here are a few suggestions with tips on how to save on some of the more expensive aspects of a wedding. Wedding Gowns Do you really need a hand-made wedding dress with beads and diamantes? This is where the big cost is and there are several options in cutting the cost. Why not opt for a second-hand wedding dress? Its probably only been worn once anyway and you can get a once expensive dress for half the price. Consider buying an evening gown/cocktail dress from a department store or look into renting your wedding dress for the day. The Reception This is where the cost of a wedding can get out of hand. The wedding reception is normally the biggest expense, but one of the easiest to cut down on costs. Statistics show that an average of 189 guests attend a wedding, this is a lot. Try and keep your guest list to a minimum, do you really need to invite family members who you have never seen for years? Instead of a three-course meal why not opt for a hot and cold buffet (even cater for yourself)? Instead of holding the reception in an expensive hotel suite or wedding reception, why not consider having it at someones home or a club, or even book a restaurant. Keep an open bar to a minimal and only serve beer, wine and soft drinks. Photography The obvious choice is to shop around for the best rates, but consider hiring a photographer for the ceremony only and ask a family member or friend to take snap photos of the reception. Or you could go one step further and ask them to take the photographs for the whole day and not bother with the expense of a photographer at all. Invitations / Stationery If youre on a budget and looking for cheaper wedding stationery items, then you might like to consider print-at-home stationery. There are many online stationers that will offer this service free of charge. You pay for the paper and envelopes, then use their software to print directly from your own PC. With sophisticated customization tools you'll be able to enter your own text and preview it before you print so as not to make any costly mistakes. Alternatively, you can buy software and do-it-yourself from your PC. Miscellaneous Flowers can be another great expense, but also an unnecessary one. Why not buy wholesale flowers, or pick flowers from your garden (or a friends or relatives). Buy plain gold or white gold wedding bands as these are the cheapest. Get a friend to make your wedding cake for you and opt for a smaller tier cake and it doesnt have to be a fruit cake try a sponge, chocolate or carrot cake! Make your favors and center-peices yourself. Accessories for these can be found at little outlet stores or online. Lastly, instead of a limousine why not rent a car or borrow a luxury car from a friend or relative? Summary Weddings are expensive if you want them to be. But if you want to keep money aside for a deposit on a house or a honeymoon to remember, then there are many cost cutting ideas. All you need is a little imagination, and some help from friends and family and you too can have a luxury wedding with all the trimmings. About The Author

Varicose Veins Dallas
by kirbee zanet - Monday, 3 March 2008, 12:47 PM
Anyone in the world

By Sterling Bray Varicose veins are the result of a simple malfunction in the valves of the vein (which plays such an important role of carrying blood from the body to the heart for re-circulation). It can become a major hindrance to leading a normal day-to-day life and can be a rather painful ailment both physically and emotionally. Varicose veins can occur due to a number of reasons like family history, work related, pregnancy induced or can even occur due to obesity. Do not neglect the classic symptoms like- Burning or throbbing or heavy feeling in the legs. Aching legs or feet, dark blue or bulging veins may also be due to varicose veins. These symptoms must not be ignored and one must consult the doctor at the earliest, as he is the best judge.
There is a common misconception that varicose veins would heal with time. On the contrary varicose veins do not heal on their own and if left untreated can lead to further complications. With the right treatment and care it will not be a cause of trouble at all. In the bygone era the painful procedure of Vein Stripping was used to treat these varicose veins. This procedure involved a lot of pain as well as required a number of days for recovery. Modern technology has made it very simple, introducing procedures that cause minimum pain and ensuring quick recovery to the patient. The actual area of problem can be diagnosed through physical examination and ultrasound tests and then the varicose veins can be treated through minimally invasive procedures which would not cause much pain A tiny incision or puncture of the skin under local anaesthesia is all it takes to get back those lovely legs and drive away the terrible nagging pain that was a dominant part of the patients life for so long. With the help of modern technology varicose vein treatment and getting on with a new phase of life minus the pain and embarrassment is only a matter of a few days. The Southwest Vein Institute is dedicated towards the treatment of varicose veins. The doctors were featured among the Best Doctors Chosen by their Peers in D magazine and Texas Super Doctors by Texas Monthly. The doctors and staff aim at not only treating the medical problem of the varicose veins but also at the post operative care that is so very important to get the patient back to a normal life. The team of doctors also work on returning the self-confidence that most of the varicose veins patients lose due to the embarrassment that accompanies the pain. Medically well equipped and the expertise of the doctors together make it one of the best available in terms of medical facilities and care. Beauty Myth and the Cinderella Complex: Youth Beauty And Money - Is That All There Is?
by kirbee zanet - Saturday, 1 March 2008, 07:35 PM
Anyone in the world

By Sonya Green She places her jaded heart in a small begging bowl and kneels before him. He dispenses his affection like loose change - amusing himself with her look of gratitude. For a fleeting moment they both pretend that an exchange of value has taken place. She remembers a time when he wanted her with passion. She remembers a time when they all did tricks for her. She remembers who she was and the power of seduction; the power of youth, a pretty face, sexuality and vitality. She dreamed dreams of all things possible. Of course the biggest dream of all echoes through her girl-child mind I want to be a bride. She so vividly remembers her wedding day, it was all she ever wanted and often thinks of it as her princess day. Daddy called her Princess as he tucked her into bed at night. She believed she was his princess and never questioned his predictions of one day becoming a beautiful woman, falling madly in love and living happily ever after. What a joke. What a great big fat lie. Was she really so deluded? Was it bad luck, bad judgment, bad choices or is the dream for only the others. It probably never occurred to her that a Princess by definition must stay young and beautiful. Cinderella probably started it all and it was reinforced over and over in books, movies, conversations and culture. As a child she wondered about Him and played dress-up games with her friends. They were all called Mrs. and prepared tea for when Mr. came home. They had bride dolls and baby dolls. They imagined and designed their future wedded bliss. He, was handsome, successful, rich and romantic. Girls were not really expected to worry too much with things like education or finance. That was unless you were a Plain Jane. No, boys dont like girls if they are too smart anyway. Beauty is the key beauty is everything. Beauty is your ticket into happily ever after. Happily ever after always had me a bit baffled. Most girls seemed to be very comfortable with the story ending at happily ever after. It nagged at me a bit - well actually it worried me quite a lot. I kind of perceived it to be a little like death. It seemed to me that when you got married your story finished. If happily ever after was so wonderful then why didnt it become another story; an even better story? Another thing that really confused me was that as a teenager we were all very obsessed with our looks and working our magic, but something seemed very, very strange. The married women in my town were anything but examples of happily ever after. I dont mean to be unkind, but these women really scared me. The men were neither princes nor charming. (I wondered about the girl who kissed the frog who became the prince. A lot of warts I would expect and probably thats not too far from reality either.) Well I dont know who had warts or who had what; I was just observing and wondering. I saw men who drank too much and yelled too loud. Women in thread bare dresses and grubby little kids hanging off them. Hair in plastic curlers and clothes pegs in mouths. Daytime soaps and talkback radio. I certainly knew nothing about all the riches in the land. Enough to buy fags for the week and a punt on the ponys maybe, but no diamonds or mink coats which were the status symbols at the time. Things have changed a little since then and women of today are at least questioning some of these issues. Thankfully, woman now are gaining education, good jobs and independent incomes. Many, are also finding they are quite capable of looking after children on their own rather than enduring abusive relationships. To hear women talk you would think that they really have analyzed and resolved their Cinderella conflicts, but have they? Does intellect really root out those childhood expectations? Do we still believe that a woman must be beautiful to attract and keep a mate? How much of our happiness and security depends of our youth and sexuality? Arent successful, intelligent, middle aged women still secretly dreaming of Him. One marriage, two marriage, three marriage, four! Perhaps if Cindella Part 2 had ever been written we might have discovered that Cinderella did indeed live happily ever after. She might have passed through the natural stages of life with grace and charm. She may have surrendered the things of youth easily and naturally as she evolved into a complete and competent woman within her own right. Perhaps her princes initial lust and fascination gave way to a deeper respect, friendship and trust that formed such a bond and deep genuine love, that they did indeed live happily ever after. Isnt it possible that her warmth, generosity, wisdom, humour and true nature were of greater value as they both evolved? I do believe that this could be a likely scenario. I certainly appreciate the appeal of youth, beauty and sensuality, but it is not my measure of human value. These things would probably gain my attention for about ten minutes. Now, I am not going to suggest that good looking people are dumb or vacuous, although this is often very stereotypical, its not right either. Being good looking does not make a person stupid anymore than being plain makes someone more interesting. We also need to accept that being wealthy is not a measure of value as a human being. Money is good and can make life on many levels a little easier, but it doesnt make all wealthy men ideal husbands nor does it mean that lacking wealth makes a man an inferior partner. We just need to do away with all of these unrealistic expectations and judgments and define what is true for ourselves. It is certainly easy enough to just sit for a minute or two and ask yourself why you do love the people you do. I think that your list might be very similar to mine; integrity, humour, empathy, warmth, intelligence and anything that engages or connects me to that person. I really would rather be sitting with a funny, interesting fat boy at the back of the room rather than staring up at a male stripper on stage - thats for sure. If we are able to get clear on what we need and want then maybe we could dismantle and reconstruct our Cinderella delusion. Now, this is where things get really interesting. Billions and billions of dollars change hands due to clever marketing tactic cashing in on our Cinderella belief. In the extreme, women can be so convinced that beauty is the only measure of self worth that they will literally destroy themselves. Do you think Im kidding? Warm, wonderful, valuable, clever, talented people are going to take themselves right out of the game of life. They are going to do it deliberately and willingly and I will tell you why. Brainwashing. It is so incredibly easy to do as we have already bought into the princess belief as children. Reinforcing the idea that being beautiful makes us happy or that lack of beauty makes us undesirable is the perfect marketing formula. Powerful and effective marketing requires subtle, consistent and emotionally charged interpretation. Everywhere we look we see imagery of beauty and youth attaining success, love, romance, sex, wealth, admiration, security and happiness. Not so obvious is the underlying message that without beauty, we are not worthy nor are we capable of having these things. Men are victimized too, but their version of self worth is tied in to money, success, power and prestige. Lives are being totally destroyed by the belief in this BS! Its not true. Its not even logical and its as clear as day, but we still believe it. Not only do we believe it; we actually promote it ourselves. The effect of this kind of marketing is that people diminish themselves to the point of total worthlessness and disappear into themselves. The really sad and pathetic motivation behind it all is simply greed and making money. And we have bought it all; the belief, the solution and the products. We allowed them to break us and then to fix us and we paid a lot of money for the privilege. Get this - some clever-dick is going to package a jar of mud, put it in a crystal jar and go on TV and convince us that this gunk will smooth out wrinkles and give you a youthful, alluring completion. His mate, a bigger and more ambitious conman cant believe the amount of dollars rolling in and decides to crank it up a bit. He has a magic syringe which pumps poison into your face, paralyses your expression and calls it a cure for frown and smile lines. Its phenomenal! He makes a bundle and inspires many others to come up with all kinds gimmicks and gadgets. Well, no one in their right mind would believe this nonsense! That is unless its repeated over and over. Thats the thing with brainwashing; it needs repetition. It also helps to have testimonials; we like to know others have tried it and can confirm it works for them. Celebrities (another marketing tool) wouldnt endorse crap if it wasnt true would they? Beautiful celebrities (The epitome of happily ever after) show us their secrets to success: Silicone bags inserted into breasts
Vacuums sucking out thighs
Daisy Duck lips
Acid skin peels
Plastic nose, cheeks and chin
And sew and tighten up that vagina! You have got to be joking no one would be fooled into doing that! Billions of bucks say that you are wrong. All it takes is to convince you that you are not okay, you are not worthy, not loveable and not ever going to be happy. And that is so easy to do because right from the start you were brainwashed into believing that love is only for the young, the beautiful and the rich. You probably dont realize this either, but you, yes you, are a part of the propaganda and you are endorsing and promoting it. Your ridiculous stiletto shoes which have deformed your feet and weakened your knees and ankles are a part of the game. The yo-yo dieting, binging and purging. Your outrageously expensive clothing, perfumes and cosmetics are all a part you play in perpetuating The Beauty Myth. Now dont get me wrong here, I am not opposed to people looking good. I totally agree that looking good can make us feel good. I am also aware that looking good can be attractive and alluring. BUT, its Not All That! Its the lies that I find offensive; the stupidity and the destruction that those lies perpetuate. Im not talking about make-up covering blemishes or enhancing skin tone, I am talking about the cosmetic industry covering up true beauty. I am talking about The Cinderella complex; our own participation in maintaining these unrealistic and dangerous beliefs. Women are competing with other women in a battle of illusion; disrespecting and destroying themselves and their sisters. This is what it all boils down to: We have been brainwashed into believing that youth and beauty equals happiness - which translates into love and security. Thats the whole Cinderella quest. We all want to love and to be loved and feel secure. What we have all been brainwashed into believing is that love and security are only available to the young, beautiful or rich. Men havent escaped either; they are suffering the Prince Charming scandal as well. Money is the mark of a man. Short, fat, bald, cigar smoking millionaires dripping with young hopeful starlets what a pathetic sight to see! But someone obviously believes it. Im not trying to downgrade wealth; having money is good, much better than not and ditto for beauty. The point is that we have accepted it as a measure of human value. Much worst than that though, we allow ourselves to be judged and we judge others by this yardstick. Isnt it time that we set examples of human value by being true to who we are? Isnt beauty really just a mask? Lets all just peel it off and have a peek at whats inside. Every age has its own beauty. In many cultures the elders are the wise and respected members of the community. Or more succinctly the most loved and honoured. Isnt it time we all took a more realistic look at these ideals and worked towards reshaping and reassessing our values? Its time for Prince Charming to show some integrity. Tonight as you hot wax your legs, think of me; curled up on the lounge wearing pajamas and Ugg boots, laughing, talking and loving my old man. Marriage Tips For The Holidays - Peace On Earth... And In Your Home Too
by kirbee zanet - Friday, 29 February 2008, 01:08 PM
Anyone in the world

By Sheryl Kurland Theoretically, its a holly, jolly time of year, but in reality, the holiday season is a catalyst for rocky marriages. Historically, January is the month with the highest divorce rate. Having endured decades of family feasts, party roulette, spending schizophrenia, shopping marathons, and obligation overload, couples married over 50 years hold the proven formula to marital bliss during the holidays. Espousing experience over analysis, they share their advice: Holiday Marriage Survival Tips Never discuss sensitive subjects when youre hungry. Make a list of what not to talk about at family gatherings. For example, never use the word older, as in Aunt Mary is older than Aunt Susan or For an older man, Uncle Harold has a lot of hair. Also, never compare today with the good ol days. If there are two ways to interpret what somebody said and one makes you mad and the other doesnt, pick the other one. At family dinners, if youve lost weight recently, dont mention it. In fact, wear baggy clothes to make yourself inconspicuous. Never roll your eyes or shush someones annoying child running around or whining. Take a vacation, i.e., go on a cruise, stay at a bed & breakfast. (If some relatives are insulted by your plan, theyre probably the same ones that made you miserable!) Consolidate tasks. Example: Take a nap together. This allows you to accomplish two goals simultaneously: 1) Devote time solely to each other, and 2) Prevent exhaustion. Make dreaded tasks more enjoyable. Example: Chat on the phone while wrapping presents or addressing holiday cards. Celebrate somebody elses holiday. Forego the lavish, overindulgent holiday feast and, instead, volunteer at a local church, food bank or homeless shelter to help the less fortunate. If an issue arises, decide how big a deal it really is to the two of you not Aunt Emma or Uncle Lester. Never, ever, miss a good chance to shut up. Every comment doesnt need a retort. Every issue doesnt need another opinion. Speak up when its important. Keep your lips zipped when it isnt. What you dont say is often as important as what you do say. Repel little mishaps and misunderstandings with laughter. Weather turbulence with a sense of humore. Hug and squeeze, aim to please. The holiday pace is frenetic and its easy to lose each other in the shuffle. In the midst of the chaos, dont forget to nurture your relationship. Block out time for each other, just as you do for everyone else! Actions can be as low key as sharing a hug for no particular reason, calling or instant messaging to simply say Im thinking about you, or taking a 15 minute after-dinner walk together. So many parties. So many outfits. So many decisions. The most popular and vexing question of the season spoken from the mouths of babes is Honey does this make me look fat? Ladies, dont ask. And gentlemen, should they dare, dont risk ruining the evening (and the entire next week). The correct answer is to articulate the fifth amendment. Besides, deep down, every wife knows where her curves should and shouldnt be. Holiday get-togethers compel people to brag about their gains. Couples brag about gains in their garage, gains in their wallet, their LLardo collection, childrens trophies, frequent flyer points, and on and on and on. With the realization that your list is a lot shorter, you may inquisitively look into each others eyes and ask: What are we doing wrong? The answer: Absolutely nothing. Whether your accomplishments for 2006 equal one or 100, give yourselves a pat on the back. Love the one youre with. Oh my, there are some fine looking men and women attending the holiday get-togethers. Everybody is jolly. Everyone looks marvelous. These observations can magnify the challenges, problems and issues the two of you are dealing with on the home-front. Are you missing something? Dont be fooled by the razzmatazz. Ninety-nine percent of the time the grass isnt greener on the other side. Instead of wallowing in wonder, turn the energy spent in doubt into energy devoted to rekindling the love between you and your mate. Forget the Norman Rockwell ideal. The pie crust wont be perfect. Scale down your expectations, and focus on whats right rather than whats wrong. Keep a good book handy. An occasional cocktail from time to time helps! Renew Your Wedding Vows This Year
by kirbee zanet - Wednesday, 27 February 2008, 09:46 AM
Anyone in the world

By Alex Daniels Face the facts, once we get past the first few anniversaries, most of us have run out of ideas when it comes to ways to celebrate. If you have been married for a number of years and especially if you have kids, the idea of your anniversary doesn't seem quite as special as it used to. A lot of folks believe renewing wedding vows is something that is only appropriate on a milestone anniversary, such as the twentieth or later. The fact is, though, that renewing the vows you made at your wedding is an incredibly romantic gesture that is appropriate to any anniversary (including your first one!). Consider the following: * Even if you recall your vows, the odds are that there are a few that you miss. Renewing vows can be a great way to remember exactly what you promised. * Renewing vows will take on a whole new perspective in the context of your marriage. You are no longer the two idealistic individuals who entered into a marriage contract; instead, you are a united couple with a better understanding of exactly what those vows mean. Every year of marriage brings a better understanding of your mate and your relationship, and repeating your vows will show them in a whole new light. * Beyond a shady idea that they promised not to cheat and something about sickness and health, not many people can really remember what they said on their wedding day. This is not because the vows were not meaningful; most of the time the wedding is a bit of a blur for both the bride and the groom, so neither are likely to remember even important details. In order to renew your vows, you might want to start by finding out what you said in the first place! If your ceremony was pretty standard then this part is actually pretty easy. Find the text that the officiator used; standard vows are usually the same no matter what faith or justice you used. If you wrote your own vows, the task might be a bit harder. First, check to see if you kept copies in your personal mementos. The odds are pretty good that you did. If not, check your wedding video and with relatives to see if you can track down what you said. Remember that the renewal of vows is not just a romantic notion, it is actually a renewal -- of vows! Aside from the act itself indicating "you'd do it all over again" it also offers you the opportunity to reflect on your duties and commitments and even improve the relationship through the "if I knew then what I know now" factor. You've learned a lot about each other since getting married, here's the perfect opportunity to use that information to make the relationship even better. Renewing wedding vows on your wedding anniversary also allows a couple to add parts to the contract that they had not thought of at the time of the wedding. If we're honest, most of us can admit that we had no idea what we were in for when we first tied the knot. Adding some vows that are relevant to the experiences of time will add an even greater feeling of commitment to your marriage. How Long To Do Cardio For Fat Burning
by kirbee zanet - Monday, 25 February 2008, 08:13 AM
Anyone in the world

By Ivan Nikolov People always ask me in the gym: how long to do cardio for fat burning. Its a one sentence question but the answer unfortunately cant be that short. Id say that knowing how long to do cardio for fat loss comes only after you already know how much calories you should eat a day in order to lose fat. Why? Because if you dont know how much you eat or if you eat a lot more than you expend then there is a little chance that youd lose any fat. Any way, this is an essential topic but if youve gotten to the point where you want to know about the duration of the cardio, I will assume that youve already got the diet part down. Now, how long to cardio for fat burning can be interpreted in two different ways: For how many weeks or months (I believe you are not thinking days!!) do I have to do cardio to get in a good shape? Or how long in duration a cardio session should be for effective fat loss. Id answer the first question like that: You will do cardio for as long as it takes. You will do it till you reach your goal. It might be 3 months, or it might be 2 years. It all depends on your current shape and your desired final destination. But keep in mind you should be losing not more than 2lb a week. 1lb is ideal. And it should all come from fat and not muscle tissue. The second question I will have to discuss a bit longer. In order to be effective at doing cardio you need to know these basic rules: You are better off doing cardio in the morning on an empty stomach or any time during the day, after the workout with weights. The reason being only then your glycogen stores (your own carbohydrate stores) will be depleted or at least very low. In this situation your body will resort to using fat for energy. That was the first thing. The second thing you should consider is: Do you intend to do regular cyclical cardio or high intensity interval training (HIIT) cardio? Whichever you choose start by doing it three times a week. Do 15-20min regular or 6-8min HIIT. Keep it there for a week and then increase the first with 5min or if you are doing the second with 3min. Keep increasing each week till you reach 40min for the regular cardio or 20min for the HIIT. At this point if you are not seeing any results, insert another cardio session for a total of four cardio sessions a week. Wait another week and check again for any changes. If you start seeing results in the form of fat loss then continue doing what you are doing. It works. If you are not seeing results, increase the cardio sessions to 5 per week. Give it a week and assess the situation again. I bet at this point you should be seeing some decent changes already. Keep it there. But if not or if your body has adapted to that higher level of activity, then your weapon is to increase the cardio sessions to 6 a week. Once that stops working for you and if you still need to lose fat, begin by inserting a second cardio session some time during the day but hours apart from the first one. You will do two cardio sessions three times a week and only one for the other three. I think you get the idea: Start with three short cardio sessions a week. Gradually increase the duration. Then increase the number of cardio sessions up to 6 per week. And if needed, start the same process over to pair each cardio session with another one again till you reach the 2 cardio sessions, twice every day, 6 times a week situation. I doubt it, though, that you will ever need to get to that point. I just wanted to describe the principle so that you know how to do it. Well, now I want to believe you have an answer to the question how long the cardio sessions should be for fat loss as long as it takes, but follow the main rules. Using Acupuncture To Lose Weight

Anyone in the world

By Jill Kane Youve probably tried many of the diets youve read about and there are a zillion ones out there and at the end of it all, realized that even if you did lose weight, you put it all back on and then some as soon as you got off the diet. So why dont you look at something thats worked for over a hundred years? Were talking about acupuncture. Maybe youre not so hot on the idea, but all other things failing, why not give it a shot? Youll be pleasantly surprised if you do. Though the idea of getting needles stuck into you to get rid of all that extra flab might not be very appealing, you might find that its definitely much better than all the fad diets that youve read about or tried. Acupuncture is a technique of healing that began way back many centuries ago in China. And it could just be what you are looking for if you are thinking of a weight loss method. It was a few years ago that this method of losing weight became popular in the US and this was mainly due to the fact that CNN carried a report on Chinas weight loss clinics and how acupuncture was used there. In China, obesity was said to be due to an imbalanced digestive function so acupuncture brought back the balance, and weight loss was the result. It strengthens the persons digestion and this controls the appetite. What it probably also does is to increase the metabolic rate so the calories get burned off faster. How does it work? Needles are put into various points in the body called meridians and then moved around by the acupuncturist. Electrical stimulation can also be used. Sometimes, acupuncture goes hi-tech and lasers are used! Each session is usually around half an hour. During the time that the needles are inside, there might be feelings of tingling, of heat, or a numb sensation. The strange thing is youll find that you went in to lose weight and many women also find that their periods get more regular and their mood swings get better. Many have experienced their fatigue disappearing as well. Lets look at the way the acupuncturist goes about it. First, he might prescribe some herbal supplements. Then comes a course of treatments, and probably after the fourth one, the stimulation will be increased. There might be a revision in the prescription as well. What happens as far as you are concerned is that you will slowly start feeling full earlier than you did before. Usually after a 10-session course, you will be asked to look at your exercise and diet while you take a break from the acupuncture. The weight loss happens slowly so you must be patient. The great thing is that its slow but sure and the pounds stay off. This happens as the craving for food gets less and you find that youre not eating that much at each meal. Which are the points in the body that are targeted? Acupuncture specialists have listed some of them. The mouth is here its at for the person who might smoke, is an impulsive eater and talks a lot. For the ones who constantly nibble or keep eating even after they are full, it is the stomach. The lungs are for the food addicts and those who love sweets and chocolates. If water retention is the problem, then its the endocrine which is the control system for ductless glands. The ovaries and the adrenal are the points if the weight gain is due to PMS or menopause. The spleen is for those who suffer from hormonal or sugar imbalances. The kidney is for those who are nervous, suffer from hormonal imbalances and have a water retention problem. The thyroid is the point for those with a slow metabolic rate. There are some acupuncturists however, who feel that there should be more than just acupuncture in a weight loss program. It should, they feel, be accompanied by diet, exercise and certain foods. If you are interested in losing weight and you are looking at acupuncture as a means to do it, you should find an acupuncturist who is certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine or the NCCAOM in the US. You will probably have to pay $50 to $125 to the doctor when it is your first visit and around $30 to $50 subsequently. The thing is that this treatment is not covered by your health insurance so you will have to bear these expenses yourself. It is common to have a few side effects when you are undergoing acupuncture treatment. You might experience headaches, nausea or dizziness. Do discuss these with both your doctor and acupuncturist just to be sure that they are harmless where you are concerned.
